Lend Me a Tenor

UIL One-Act Competition Play

Austin High

Lend Me a Tenor

This hilarious play is a case of mistaken identity, mixed with opera! I constructed several costumes for this show, including a gloriously gaudy silver dress, and a traveling suit. To view the complete album, click here.

Willy Wonka

Willy Wonka

Austin High was thrilled to be offered the first opportunity to mount a high school production of Willie Wonka. For this production, I constructed several of the costumes for the children, as well as the parents, Mrs. Gloop and Mrs. Teavee.

Major Barbara

Major Barbara

This play, by George Bernard Shaw, is set in the early 1900s. For this show, I constructed not only the uniforms for the Salvation Army members, but the ensembles for Barbara’s upper crust family. I also constructed the vests for the male actors. I arranged the music for and also directed the small a cappella ensemble who sang the pre-show music, as well as the music for the second act scene change. To view the full album, click here.

The three-part Salvation Army a cappella group. I constructed all the skirts, capes, and bonnets.

The Diary of Anne Frank

Austin High

The Diary of Anne Frank

For this heart-wrenching show, I constructed quite a few items. In this photo, you can see several of them. Anne’s jumper, Miep’s skirt, and Mrs. Van Daan’s green blouse, seated at the table. Several characters in this production were double cast, so costumes had to be made to fit more than one actor. For the complete album, click here.

While I didn’t construct anything for this actor, I had to include my cat, Toby. He played the part of Mouschi.

Over the Tavern

UIL One-Act Play competition

Over the Tavern

This play is set in 1959, and offers a glimpse into the life of a family who lives above their family-owned tavern. This was the UIL competition production for Austin High, which, I am thrilled to say, won the state level of competition that year. I constructed the school uniform vest, skirt and ties for the students, several apron/skirt combinations for the mother, and the nun’s habit and bonnet. This show was a beautiful blend of poignancy and comedy. For the full album, click here.

An Inspector Calls

Austin High UIL One-Act Play Competition

An Inspector Calls

University Interscholastic League (UIL) sponsors many competitions in various different disciplines such as music, mathmatics, writing, sports, theatre and many others.

An Inspector Calls is a who-dunnit, set in early 1900s England. This presented the challenge of creating corseted dresses for the female characters. These are the costumes I constructed for this production. To see the complete photos from this outstanding competitive production, click here.

Shrek

Spring Musical 2017

Shrek

For this production, I helped as vocal coach, and made the dresses for the four Fiona characters. There were other small repairs and alterations, however, the four dresses were my only constructed costumes for this production. To see all the photos from this beautiful production, click here.

Once Upon a Mattress

One of our local middle schools presented Once Upon a Mattress in 2017. Here are some of the costumes I constructed for them. Some of these photos were taken during fittings at the school, or during rehearsal. You will notice actors wearing jeans, tennis shoes, and other non-costume items. The show was delightful, and it was a true joy working with these talented young actors!
